It depends on the camera. For Nikon, the 17-55 2.8 is great. Goes wide enough to capture groups and environments but also zooms to get closer.

But if I could get any lens right now, it would be a fisheye. I love the shots I've seen using one at weddings.

      interesting.
i have seen some really nice shots with a fisheye at weddings as well!

i have a canon and i have an 18-55 (the stock one) and it bums me out, it's like the autofocus is in slow motion.
i also have this lens i used to use on my film camera which actually works very nicely and has a macro feature that i love... ha ha, go figure...(28-80, but since it's an old lens and since i am using a 30d the ratio is different, not very wide, but does a wonderful close up and macro)
so now i am running through my head *what* would i want vs. what would i need (sure, i am keeping this way open cause i am all over the place)
      for instance
at a wedding, is a large zoom all that necessary?
      and
      on another note
the lenses that have the *everything* feeling (28-300 or 70-200) which aren't all that wide...
in your opinion, are they kind of a pain in the ass cause they are so big? (i know these are canon lenses, but i'm sure you have seen them)

      or or
does anyone find more value in a single focal length?

i guess i wish for that *one* lens... which could be a 24-105...
      thanks for your response!!

I want one lens that is 10mm fisheye - 300mm f1.0. Ha, ha.

It depends on your style. I like to do candid portraits and even for regular portraits of just the bride and groom, I really like the results I get with the 80-200mm 2.8 that I have (although I wish I had the 70-200mm VR but I digress...). But I'd say 3/4 of my shots are with my 17-55 2.8.
